Chinese-owned battery manufacturer Gotion is boosting its Washington-based lobbying muscle.
The company has hired an in-house registered lobbyist, Donald Morrissey, as it fights to establish electric vehicle manufacturing plants in Michigan, Illinois and California and to reap federal tax incentives for its products.
The hire, revealed in a public filing, arrives as opposition to Gotion heats up on Capitol Hill among lawmakers fighting to block the company from federal subsidies.
Republican Rep. John Moolenaar of Michigan, the incoming leader of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, floated legislation last year with Rep. Darin LaHood of Illinois, H.R. 6175, that would block Gotion from accessing Inflation Reduction Act credits.
