An alphabet soup of agencies is preparing the federal government for the coming transition while the presidential candidates are still playing catch-up.
The General Services Administration has released a status update on how career officials are readying for the changeover when President Joe Biden leaves office next year. The three-month report, which was due Monday and comes within 100 days of the election, details steps the Justice and Homeland Security departments, as well as GSA and other personnel and ethics offices, are taking for the transition.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have yet to name who will lead their transition teams for what could be a tricky transfer of power, as shown in the report.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is planning security for delivering classified briefings and documents to the candidates’ transition teams. The spy agency will also be involved in granting clearances.
