Whitman, who served under Republican President George W. Bush, made her endorsement as part of Republicans for Harris, a new effort Harris’ presidential campaign launched Sunday.

“I was a proud Republican, but Donald Trump is unfit to lead our nation. We saw during his four years in office how he consistently chose himself, his pursuit of power, and his billionaire friends over the American people while spewing lies and spreading chaos at every turn,” Whitman said in a statement.

“It’s time to move forward by electing Vice President Kamala Harris,” she said. “Republicans for Harris will be an important way for us to bring that message to the voters who will decide this election.”
