The Bureau of Reclamation will invest nearly $9 million to fix recently discovered damage to the Glen Canyon Dam and prevent potential future problems delivering water downstream from one of the nation’s largest reservoirs.
The Interior Department announced the funding Thursday, part of a massive $520 million distributed to 57 water infrastructure projects.
“Reclamation’s commitment to ensuring our infrastructure is ready to deliver water, produce hydropower and continue providing recreation is evident in these project selections,” Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton said in a statement.
Reclamation revealed last month it had uncovered damage to the lowest exit point of the Glen Canyon Dam, four structures known as the River Outlet Works.
