A $40 million private donation will allow Yellowstone National Park to build out 70 modular homes for park employees, helping address the critical lack of affordable housing at or near the park.
Work on the modular units is set to begin later this year. The money, which was provided by donors who want to remain anonymous, was announced by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, which handles philanthropic donations for the park system.
Housing for NPS employees at Yellowstone and other popular national parks is often scarce or expensive. Some employees have to commute long distances, which can complicate the ability to recruit and retain workers.

At Yellowstone, some housing was lost in the park’s historic 2022 floods.
