Connecticut’s attorney general is suing residential solar companies over their alleged unlawful and deceptive sales activities in the state.

The lawsuit filed in Connecticut Superior Court claims Sunrun and the local marketing and installation companies, Massachusetts-based Bright Planet and Connecticut-based Elevate Solar, engaged in practices such as locking consumers into contracts without informed consent, said Attorney General William Tong, a Democrat.

“The complaints we have seen — including forged signatures, impersonations of consumers, non-permitted work, and non-functioning systems — are beyond shocking,” said Tong in a statement announcing the legal challenge Friday.

“These companies had an opportunity to make it right, to end these fraudulent leases, and remove these unwanted solar panels,” Tong continued. “We will aggressively pursue these companies in court to make these homeowners whole and to stop these abusive practices.”
