The Interior Department will inject an additional $105 million into nearly 70 water conservation and efficiency projects across 11 states, bolstering efforts to adapt to shrinking water supplies in the West and Midwest.
The projects — located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Wyoming — include improvements like canal lining, meter installation and conservation incentives for using less water.
“As we work to counter the impacts of drought and climate change, we must embrace opportunities to increase water and energy efficiency wherever possible,” Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton said in a statement.
The funding, drawn from 2021’s bipartisan infrastructure law, adds to the $4.2 billion in funds the agency has assigned to 575 projects to date.
