The Senate on Thursday confirmed a Republican nominee to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, an agency under scrutiny in the debate over natural gas stoves.
Lawmakers approved Douglas Dziak, an agency chief counsel, by voice vote. The five-member panel will now have two Republican and three Democratic appointees.
Senate Commerce ranking member Ted Cruz (R-Texas) last year said the nominee “has shown an ability to work in a bipartisan fashion to protect American consumers.”

Commissioner Richard Trumka generated controversy in recent months when he suggested the CPSC could move to ban gas stoves. The agency is not working on such rulemaking.
